WELCOME to this new page of our website started in May 2019 in the middle of our centenary year.
On this page Baslow WI members and friends will publish recipes they have tried, tested and most of all enjoyed!
We hope that you will download the recipes, give them a try and let us know how you get on. Just for fun we've added our Editor's 'Suggested sips'!
If you would like to submit a recipe for this page contact us via this website - it's easy! 🌻
Cath is a member of Baslow WI, a great cook who often volunteers to help in the kitchen at Baslow WI meetings. Cath hosted a fantastic fund raiser at her home on the edge of Baslow Village supported by many members and friends. This recipe for a side dish is perfect at this time of year when courgettes are in season but would be perfect at any time of year as they are readily available in the shops all year around.
Liz is our WI Adviser at Baslow WI and also a Baslow Biker! She has shared this scrumptious carrot cake recipe with us, it looks absolutely yummy and an easy recipe to follow. Let's have a go and enjoy.

Our editor loves a nice piece of carrot cake and this one would be perfect as a mid-morning snack with a great cup of strong coffee such as a Mountain blend from Northern Tea Merchants, Chesterfield. If served as a sweet course at the end of a delicious meal a drop of French Cognac would go down well too! ☕️
Iris is a Baslow WI member. She is an excellent cook and has enjoyed baking for the Community Orchard Apple Day Competitions in Baslow, where she has been very successful. Well done Iris and thanks for sharing this delicious soup recipe.
Gordon is one of the Baslow Bikers and really enjoys cooking. He cooks on an AGA through the autumn and winter months and towards the end of spring moves outside to cook on the BBQ!
Diane is a member of Ambergate WI, she is a WI Adviser and also the Vice Chair of Derbyshire Federation. She has always been a great friend to Baslow WI and we are pleased to be able to publish one of her favourite 'tried & tested' recipes.
Donna is not a Baslow WI member but follows us on Facebook. She has very kindly sent us this easy, seasonal recipe for fruit jam and given her permission to publish it with her photo.

Kate has been an active Baslow WI member for many years and was President
2014-17. In our WI she is well known for her baking and on many occasions has kindly made the WI celebration cakes.
Vikki has been a Team Member at Baslow WI since 2009 and our Treasurer since 2014. She enjoys Italian food and this is one of her well tried and tested favourites. Vikki enjoys cooking at home and eating out too!
Lorna has been using this healthy, low fat recipe for many years definitely a 'Tried & Tested' favourite of hers! She recently attended the NFWI Annual Meeting in Bournemouth as Baslow WI's delegate and some these went into her 'goodie bag'!
Ann has tried and tested this healthy, low calorie chicken recipe found on line. Ann joined Baslow WI in 1984 and has enjoyed working as part of the Team serving for four years as WI President and now sharing the role of secretary. Since her husband retired from work she does't cook much but enjoys trying new dishes sometimes, she says... 'Gordon is a much better cook than I am'!
Lorna has shared her quick and easy, low fat recipe with us, it looks delicious! Lorna has been a WI member for many years, before joining Baslow she was a member at Bamford. At Baslow she has been an active member of the Team, for three years she was our President and is now Vice President. She is a great supporter of Denman College and recently joined the Denman sub-committee at DFWI.
This highly recommended fruit loaf recipe comes from Christine Thompson. Christine has been President of Baslow WI for two years, she is first and foremost a crafts woman and said 'don't expect too many recipes from me' when we agreed to build this page! As well as crafts Christine is full of good ideas for our WI and is working hard promoting her President's Charity this year 'Baslow Village Hall' the home of our WI for 100 years!
Lorna our former Baslow WI President and now Vice President has given us this fabulous idea for a simple starter or light lunch. Enjoy!
The first contributor to our 'Tried & Tested' page is Judith Barton. She is a Team Member at Baslow WI and is responsible for the fabulous programme of speakers we have had in recent years. She makes awesome cakes, let's hope we will see lots of her favourite recipes on this page as it grows!
These scones would be amazing as part of a very special tea. Our Editor would recommend either Earl Grey or Rwanda tea (perfect from Northern Tea Merchants, Chesterfield) in your cup and if you are really celebrating how about adding a touch of fizz in your glass? - To keep things a bit more 'British' try a Chapel Down from Tenterden, Kent. Delicious! 🇬🇧
