September 2023 - More support for our local charities...
Many of our members busy themselves with crochet and knitting for our various charities. Here you can see Jenny with some blankets she has knitted for the Premature Baby Unit at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. She tells us that she usually sits in the evening working on these blankets and her family buy her the wool in charity shops. Isn't that wonderful support for local charities? Thanks Jenny keep up the good work! 🧶

February 2023 - Artwork following a very special visit to Windsor Castle...
Our Roving Reporter was a little off her normal Derbyshire track when she visited Windsor with Frances, her sister, who was awarded a CBE by King Charles. Jane has sketched and painted this fabulous birthday card for Frances depicting some memorable moments in their lives together including the visit to see the King! Thanks for sharing this with us Jane.
Jane explains: 'The milliner matched coat colours and included a Peacock feather. Lady Manners school badge features a peacock.
Flag - There is nothing like Dame (actual music). Me hoping to get invite to next Honour!
During Frances two year stay with me, her baths ran over, her pans burnt, total confusion over limestone, gritstone and granite during exams at Lady Manners School. Small sign of a skin blemish and she was under the sun lamp! But I loved her youthful company. We had lots of fun to look back on.
Some dispute as to whether Ravens lived at Windsor Castle but I saw three - so they’re there too.
CBE Medal in the centre.'

Goldwork embroidery by Lorna Wilson - Winter 2019
This peacock is an original design by Baslow WI member, Lorna, it is not from a kit. She had an assorted bag of copper and bronze threads that she bought from the Golden Hinde stall at the Harrogate Knitting & Stitching Show and thought of this project to use them. The leather and metal threads are stitched in the same way as gold or silver ones are used goldwork. Well done Lorna he is stunning!
